Big Bass Studio is the calm offline sim we didn't expect

I went into Big Bass Studio expecting a throwaway fishing game and came out running it every evening. The hook, no pun intended, is how little it asks of you. Open it, cast, and the water does the rest until a fish bites.

The casting mechanic is smarter than it looks. You hold and drag to keep line tension steady while the fish fights, and each species pulls differently. Bigger catches need patience; yank too hard and you lose the line. It taught me to slow down.

Around the fishing sits a light studio-building layer. Your catches feed into upgrades for your little lakeside setup, new spots open up, and gear gets better. It's progression without pressure, and it all runs offline, which is the whole reason we tested it.

If you want a game to unwind with on a commute or before sleep, Big Bass Studio is an easy recommendation. Just don't expect adrenaline. This one is about the quiet.

My only wish is for a few more fishing locations later in the game. But even now, it's earned a permanent spot on my phone.
